Arguments about essays

On January 23, 2013 in Professor Sweeney’s English class we were informed that we had to write three essays’. We was given a list of topics to pick from and instead of everyone picking their own topic the whole class had to decide on the same three topics. We are a class full of grown people so it should be easy right? WRONG! It wasn't just a majority rule thing minority actually had input too. We had to get 100% agreement on three topics. When Professor Sweeney said there is a reason for us having to all agree on the same topic. I thought since it’s an argumentative research paper if we pick the same topic we would have different opinions’ so therefore when he got our papers he would have two sides to an argument. This was a very hard thing to do. In 35 minutes we only got 1 topic and that was “Crime and Punishment”.  I like how Professor Sweeney lets us debate as a class as he sat out. Not only did he give us the opportunity to interact with other classmates. It also let everybody voice their opinion on why we should or why we shouldn't write about a certain topic. On Friday we have to finish picking topics so hopefully things will run smoothly and, everybody gets a chance to talk and a chance to listen.
